We are seeking a Backend Engineer with strong experience in Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL to join Numonic as we scale a developer-first transactional email platform. The ideal candidate is hands-on, self-directed, and thrives in fast-paced startup environments. You will own critical backend components, contribute to system reliability, and help shape the technical direction as we enhance deliverability, analytics, and domain management capabilities.

Required proficiency with Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL, familiarity with AWS SES/SNS/SQS, and a solid grasp of event-driven design. You should be comfortable with backend testing, error handling, and building scalable services. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential in our remote, startup culture.

Numonic is building a developer-first transactional email platform on AWS SES. Our early team is small and highly technical: an SES specialist focused on infrastructure, a founder driving product direction, and you as one of the first backend engineers shaping the system. We work fast, keep scope tight, and collaborate closely as we move from MVP into a production-grade platform with real customers.

• Build and maintain backend services in Node.js/TypeScript for sending, events, throttling, and domain management.
• Design and refine REST APIs consumed by our dashboard and SDKs.
• Collaborate with our SES architect to implement warmup, rate limits, and deliverability logic.
• Improve reliability, monitoring, CI/CD, and testing across the platform.
• Contribute to early architecture decisions as we scale from MVP to production.

Experience with Supabase or Prisma for data access layers, Redis for caching and fast data structures, and prior work with transactional email or deliverability systems. Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools, performance tuning, and experience contributing to platform-level architecture is a plus.
